May Dreamboard

A few friends and I enjoyed a lovely Sunday eating deviled eggs and pasta salad and working on our spring dreamboards. I especially love my cowboy and horse  pictures and the one of the blue-footed boobies!

 The Music Never Stopped

We just saw another excellent film through the Sedona Film Festival Series called The Music Never Stopped. It was adapted from Oliver Sacks’ case study, “The Last Hippie” and is the true story of a young man who, due to traumatic brain injury, is caught up in his memories of 1968. The movie explores the strained relationship between father and son, and the work of a music therapist who uses the man’s tie to the music of that time to enable him to move into the future. The film works on many levels and above all, you’ll walk away with the reminder to appreciate what you have because you never know just how long you’ll have it.

 Art in Sedona

We went to a juried art show opening last night where we were delighted to see that our good friend Debbie Wnuk had won second place in the Professional Division!  It’s such fun to know artists in the area. One of the biggest attractions for me in Sedona, besides the natural beauty, is the incredible richness of the many art galleries and live music programs. This place is truly a creative mecca.

 Snowy Sunday

Woke up to snowy vistas this morning! It will all be gone within a day so we’re enjoying the views while we can.

 Film Preview

Saw a good one tonight through the Sedona Film Festival. “Cyrus” is a wonderfully-written psychological comedy about a woman caught between her over-possessive son and her new boyfriend. It should open nation-wide in about a week.

Make sure you catch it!

 Late Spring in Sedona

 Food, Glorious Food

On this day of celebrating the earth, I’d also like to give thanks for our guests Scott and Tina and 6 year old Kate and little 3 year old Izzie who always show us how to appreciate all of the planet’s bounty — especially the food!

Scott is a seasoned professional chef (ho ho) and has treated us to amazing meals all week. And yesterday Tina and I took Kate for her first sushi. Although the weather’s been a bit cool for Sedona, we’ve managed to pack in a lot of touring as well. We do love having guests!

 A Picnic And Some Petroglyphs

We went for a little picnic on Beaver Creek Saturday afternoon, and to see the nearby petroglyphs – rock carvings created by the Sinagua tribe  sometime between 1150 and 1400 AD.

Fascinating and fun.

 Scrapping with Sue

My former next-door neighbor, my best ol’ buddy from the time we were 3 years old, came out to visit this week. We did a number of things together in Sedona but the highlight was scrapbooking. We both love the hobby, but more than that, we got to “play” together like we did when we were kids — finding pictures of the games we enjoyed for hours on end and the musical groups we loved back in the 50′s and 60′s. No, we weren’t putting clothes on the Lennon sisters paper dolls like we used to do, but we were sharing the fun of creating while we listened to the oldies and reminisced.

Long-time girlfriends — priceless.
